Dr. Winarsky is the vice president of Ventures and Strategic Programs at SRI. Silicon Valley-based SRI International is one of the world's leading independent research and technology development organizations. Founded in 1946 as Stanford Research Institute, SRI has been meeting the strategic needs of global markets for more than 50 years. As part of its strategy to bring its technologies to the marketplace, SRI licenses its technologies, forms strategic partnerships and creates spin-off companies. SRI and its subsidiary, Sarnoff Corporation, have formed more than 25 spin-offs in information technology, biotechnology, healthcare, education and web-based services. Dr. Winarsky previously spent 25 years at Sarnoff. As founder, president and managing partner of nVention at Sarnoff Corporation, Dr. Winarsky helped lead and nurture innovative technology and business teams to become emerging companies. Prior to his work with nVention, Dr. Winarsky was corporate vice president of Sarnoff, responsible for Internet and multimedia technologies. Dr. Winarsky was a recipient of Sarnoff's highest honor, the David Sarnoff Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement. Dr. Winarsky received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the University of Chicago in 1969, 1970, and 1974, respectively, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. A National Science Foundation Fellow from 1969 until 1974, Dr. Winarsky was an invited member of the mathematics department of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J from 1971 to 1972, and in the summers from 1973 - 76. Dr. Winarsky has written more than 50 papers and given hundreds of invited talks, lectures and presentations throughout the world. In addition to founding nVention, he is a founder of the National Information Display Laboratory - a center of excellence for the government in information processing and display technologies. In the last four years he was also a founder of over ten of SRI and Sarnoff's more than 25 spin-offs. Dr. Winarsky served as chairman of the board for Pyramid Vision Technologies, and as a board member for Wavexpress, Semandex, and LifeClips. Dr. Winarsky currently sits on the board of NetWeave. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
